Wybron Cygnus Studio LEDs Outshines at PLASA STLD Shootout

The Society of Television Lighting and Design LED Shootout at PLASA 2011 gave lighting manufacturers an opportunity to introduce key features of their fixtures while shown alongside various equivalent 1250W tungsten predecessors. Bryan Austwick of TMB UK, the exclusive distributor of Wybron products in the UK, represented Wybron's Cygnus Studio fixtures at the shootout. The LED and tungsten fixtures were rigged and focused on an object 25’ from the fixture; at the object points, there were live light meter readings taken, which were displayed on monitor; and a camera was set up with live feed to a monitor showing the fixtures’ behavior on camera.

Cygnus Studio performed with the following results:

• The Cygnus Studio MFS200 was rigged with a diffuser and put up against a 1K flooded and despite the reduction in output from the diffuser, the Cygnus Studio fixture still performed well, giving nearly the same output as the tungsten. The Cygnus Studio VNS200 performed with slightly higher output than the tungsten.


• In comparison to other manufacturer’s fixtures against the tungsten, the Cygnus Studio MFS200/VNS200 gave the highest output. Shoot-out observers were very impressed with the overall output of the Cygnus fixtures.



• The Cygnus Studio grip mode was a winner; many people loved the ease of use and the master/slave function. The STLD crew commented on the single arm yoke and how easy it was to rig.
  


• The demonstration of Cygnus Studio’s high frame rate, flicker-free setting made a strong impression and was of interest to several people.
  

The Cygnus Studio series proves to be an outstanding choice in studio lighting, providing variable 2800K-6000K, bright white light for a variety applications including film, broadcast, exhibitions, event, indoor architecture, house of worship and more.
